August 13, 2025 at 5:54 pm #249067Wowowowow! Thousands of Revell DC-8-61 kits are crying out in anticipation of the trash bin.
Kind regards,

August 13, 2025 at 8:58 pm #249073Greetings!
I agree with Jaime… The Revell kit is not a complete dog, and is quite nice when built by a modeler who pays attention!
Best regards,
Jeff Jarvis

August 14, 2025 at 5:41 am #249077I built the Revell kit decades ago and it’s still on the shelf. Could use a refresh.

Posts: 0I do have a Revell DC-8-61 that is being built. I really studied the kit and then compared it to the Minicraft DC-8-63. Putting the two fuselages side by side and taking measurements. It became clear that by trimming the Revell fuselage down to the Minicraft fuselage length. You now had a fuselage that was workable and most importantly, it looks like a DC-8 61/63. So if I was looking to build a -61 in 144 scale and did not have a Minicraft DC8-63 kit, or a Revell DC-8-61 kit. I would buy the new kit. But if I was budget conscious, the Revell kit would be a natural choice. We are modelers right? So is it that hard to trim a fuselage on an otherwise acceptable kit. If I can do it so can you. There are articles in the archives that focus on the DC8 kits and how to fix the kits. In the past we used the Revell DC-8-61 kit engines on the standard 8 to build a 50 series. Some feel that those engines look too big. I have used them in the past and it worked for me. There are also aftermarket engines for the 8 as well. So while I welcome this new kit in general. It will not make me want to get rid of all my Revell DC-8-61s. So if those thousands of DC-8-61s need a new home, mine is open to donations of these homeless and unwanted kits.
Happy modelling,
Jaime

August 15, 2025 at 3:23 am #249088Hmm … No pics of the wings. I wonder if they will still have the leading edge inserts found on the earlier DC-8 kits? If so it won’t be on my shopping list. It’s less bother to add a set of BraZ engines to a Minicraft kit.

August 27, 2025 at 2:16 pm #249170I have 7 Revell DC-8-61s and 8 Revell DC-8-11s in the stash, with 14 Minicraft 63/73 but only 5 X-Scale DC-8-33/54s, so I still welcome this new DC-8-61 kit as well.

so, I’m in a mood….. this post is about the -61. Question answered! For the rest, start a new thread.
I’ll see myself out.
I don’t always say “Proceed as requested”
But when I do, it is because I have no clue what you just said.September 15, 2025 at 12:31 pm #249325Agreed Jeff, I still have the Air Canada -61 (Revell) I built back in the 1980s using a set of transfers supplied by Fred Alsina at Jet Set System. I drilled and filed out all the windows and filled them with Kristal Clear and used humbrol white enamel paint which has gone a bit yellow. While it’s not as pristine as it once was it’s still a keeper. Same for the Revell short fuselage version DC-8 which I built up as Aeroperu using the Runway30 727-100 decal. Modellers these days are just plain spoiled (except on model prices)! While looking for info. on Short Sandringham conversions today, I found an article in the November 1969 Airfix Magazine and an advert pricing the then brand new Airfix BOAC 747 model at 19 shillings. Less than £1.00 GBP. Oh to have a time machine!

October 2, 2025 at 3:32 am #249516I think it’s fabulous that X-Scale ventured into this and into other airliner projects. More variety, the better. The details reflect most advanced technology. In the end, no kit is perfect and will always have some parts that require modeling skill and patience.
I bought all DC-8 kits, the Trident and plan on getting the 707 and this dc-8-61 as well. Keep uo the great work X-Scale!

October 3, 2025 at 9:56 am #249526Not sure when i’ll get round to building a -61, but i’ll probably buy a couple if for no other reason than to keep X-Scale in business.
