Hello everyone,
I’m looking for 1/144 UPS old livery decals, especially their DC-8 decal. Also I’m looking for UPS DC-8 inflight photo. I can buy a copy of it if no one wants to sell their original copy. I want to build a UPS DC-8-73 by using engines and fuselage plugs from Minicraft kit.

May 15, 2023 at 4:51 am #243240Hi again Ray, forgot to mention, several versions of the Minicraft DC-8 are -73s from the box with no modifications. Delta for sure, and I believe United, and probably one or two others. Which version of the kit are you using?

May 15, 2023 at 3:00 pm #243241Hi Gene,
I have a few Minicraft DC-8 kits but I decided to use its CFM engines, scoopers for a DC-8-73, wingtips, fuselage plugs to convert my X-Scale DC-8-32 into DC-8-73. Of course I will sand off those engine pylons over the wing. I could have simply used the nose from X-Scale DC-8 to make the Minicraft kit look more accurate but unfortunately the Minicraft DC-8 has too many flaws. Now everything I mentioned about the Minicraft DC-8 kit is fixable except for the wing’s thickness?
I found the following items that are wrong with Minicraft DC-8 kits.
1-Nose= Includes the cockpit and nose
2-wings= Are to thick in comparison with X-Scale
3-Wing leading edges= Are flat
4-Tail= Leading edges are flat

May 15, 2023 at 11:53 pm #243248Hi Mark,
Thanks for your kind words. I forgot to mention about the Minicraft’s DC-8-71/73 CFM56 engine nacelles that are flat and needs some sanding from inside and outside to make them look like the real thing.

May 16, 2023 at 6:47 am #243249Unique approach Ray, I wouldn’t have thought of stretching the X-Scale kit.
I’ve always thought that the Minicraft nose looked a bit odd, but I do come across a photo once in a while where the nose in the photo looks like the Minicraft nose.
