Hi all,
Is anyone attempting one of these now or one of the other Titan kits? I’m seriously considering getting one of their 757-200’s, and am looking for some feedback. Thanks, Fred K.

Hi Fred. I just ordered one myself, but haven’t yet received it. From the photos of parts it looks like a bit of work, but there is a lot of detail and potential for doing even more of our own. The 3D printing layers will need to be smoothed out and that will take some time. The fuselage, wings and tail are vacuformed so experience with that medium will be helpful, too. But I’m exited about it. Pretty pricey though!

Hi Jeff,
A little while back I nearly ordered one of their 747’s, but decided against it because Chris at Titan (if I remember correctly) hadn’t done a cockpit set for it. He did mention that he had encountered much more demand for a cockpit set than anticipated, so he was planning on doing cockpits for all of his kits eventually.
I was checking back in last night to see if had had updated anything when I came across the 757, which I hadn’t seen before. The kit looks totally buildable as you mentioned. I’m currently working on a BPK 737-200, 737-800, so I do have some experience with these bigger short run kits, and have had some experience with both vacs, and 3D printed parts, but have never attempted a project like the 757. I guess the best way to figure it out is dive right in! I’d be interested to hear your impressions when yours arrives. Thanks, Fred.

Fred, What markings are you thinking of putting on the 757? I am following the 737-200 & -800 builds on ARC Forum. K/r, Dutch
Kind regards,
DutchHi Dutch,
I’ve been eyeballing some markings over at V1’s site. So far the Monarch jet, and one of the Iron Maiden jets are the top contenders. Who knows, maybe I’ll buy two of the Titan kits! I saw somewhere that BPK had mentioned doing a 757, but it was several years ago before things got interesting in Ukraine. I’d much rather have an injection molded kit than a vac, but who knows where that project is now.
You’ll be glad to know that last night I pulled Rat 55 off of the shelf and am going to start sanding the paint out to try again. I’ve also been making progress on the -800, but haven’t posted an update yet. Thanks for checking in ;0) Fred.

I just received my Titan 1/72 757-200 kit yesterday and am VERY impressed. I can’t give an in-depth review since I’ve only given everything a once-over, but this thing is really BIG, even for a narrow body airplane. I can appreciate how big their 747s and Airbuses must be! I won’t post photos at this point because the parts are shown to advantage on Titan’s website, but the shapes all look spot on to me. Think of it as a Welsh kit blown up to 1/72….large airframe parts are on thick-gage vacuform sheets, while well detailed engine, landing gear, and cockpit parts are 3D printed resin. One concern I had was the layering you get with 3D printing, but this seemed very fine and should look good after priming and sanding lightly. Parts like landing gear struts shouldn’t need much sanding at all.
No decals come with the kit but aftermarket decals should be available through Draw Decal or other printers.
They give you FOUR copies of the vacuformed cockpit “canopy” in case you mess things up cutting out the section of forward fuselage and fitting the clear part – reassuring. You could optionally omit this and just use window decals over the solid section, but since very nice cockpit interior parts come with the kit I’m tempted to give a go at installing everything. You can use the whole clear piece or cut out the individual cockpit windows (something beyond my skill level). I don’t think using something like Krystal Klear will work well with glass this big though. No clear cabin windows of course, but decals would be fine there.
Engine parts look very nice and well detailed, and even include fan section exit and turbine exhaust blades.
No instructions come with the kit, but these are available to download from Titan’s website.
Feel free to ask questions – I’ll try to answer as best I can.
Jeff
Thanks for the update Jeff! As luck would have it, I was just talking to Chris at Titan today, and he said that sometime this year he plans on switching to injection molded canopies for all of his kits. His reasoning is that most modelers don’t like vac canopies. I agree with him completely, as that is the only reason I haven’t bought one of the 757s yet. I still may have to jump after your quick look though! Thanks, Fred.

Injection molded canopies would be great!

Fred, Makes for a simpler paint job. I have the 1/144 decals from Draw Decal. Still waiting for my Zvezda 757 to arrive. K/r, Dutch
