i accidentally stumbled upon a thread over on Hyperscale. Atlantis has included the old Revell Convair 990 in their 2021 product lineup.
Did anybody hear similar from other sources? I was told the 990 molds were forever lost, swept from the deck of a cargo ship in the middle of a gale, or blown up by accident when someone poured gasoline into the molds and ignited it.
To me this kit has always been akin to finding a living, breathing dinosaur in the Brazillian rainforest.

They say 990 and 707 in June.

Yup…the 990 is on the Atlantis page as is the 707. For the 707 I’m hoping it has the Pratt and Whitney turbojets and not the Rolls Royce Conways that were on the 2000 Revell United 720 release.

Greetings!
I hope we are pleasantly surprised, but the -120 kit was a “JET FLAGSHIP” and the -120B kit was an “ASTROJET” on the Revell boxes just as American Airlines referred to them. We’ll see….
Regards,
Jeff JarvisPS: We buried my brother Jan yesterday morning in the Barrancas National Cemetery at NAS Pensacola, Florida with military honors. The USN Chaplain officiated very nicely with 2 USN sailors doing the military part. They presented my niece with the flag that was unfolded and covered him, then refolded and given to her, and they played “TAPS” on the bugle. I drove 1300+ miles from 4PM Sunday going down there to 2AM this morning coming back. This old body is just too damned old for this stuff! But, I had to say goodbye to him…. It was really a beautiful ceremony even though there were only 5 of us in attendance due to COVID19 restrictions.
God's "Curse" to aviation!
The engines on the B720 reissue would represent P&W JT-3C although they are not faithful to those either. Airfix represented their engines as Conways. Revell B707 Astrojet kits represented a model -123B with turbocompressors on the inboard engines only as was the option of American Airlines on all of their 707/720B fleet.

Yes the folks at Atlantis are doing wonderful things. my younger days are new again. Take note just below the Convair was the Wright engine another great kit. Just about something for everyone on that list. Couldn’t be happier. Thank You Mr Miller. Mr Davis deeply sorry for your loss terrible year for loss of family members and friends.

Hi Jeff….and everyone,
(Jeff – I sent you a separate email regarding the sad loss of your brother.)
I am very happy to see these old kits come back. I too am hoping the 707 is the turbojet…but I guess we will just have to wait and see what comes. Fingers crossed.
Sadly, the old Electra molds were destroyed (pretty much) when Revel created the P3 kit. So, I doubt we will ever see that kit again, even if it was a bit crude….it was still a HUGE favorite of mine as a kid. I had one in every color Braniff painted them in….and a few colors that they never painted them….lol!!
Could the former Revell DC-8 be in the not too distant future?
Interesting times.

You know that, I know that, and so do do most of our readers. For whatever reason someone at Revell did not. The kit nacelles are ever so slightly different and the instructions state that the 720 had Rolls Royce Conways.
We’ll all have to see exactly what Atlantis releases. I thought American was tough to deal with over copyright issues. Its been 20 years since the 707 kit was last released as the United 720.

I received my Convair 990 direct from Atlantis yesterday.
Now, Eastern Express it ain’t but on the whole i was rather pleased. There was not much flash to speak of on most of the parts. Atlantis stamped an “Atlantis Models 2022” mark inside one of the wings, but missed the “Revell Models 1961” stamp on the horizontal tailplane.
Fuselage halves had some slight warpage, but nothing like the trainwreck that was the Glencoe Convair 880 re-release.
The decal sheet allows you to build all three NASA Gallileo aircraft. The kit includes the classic “Revelling” clear stand, with a nice big fat Convair logo to stick on it. Now i can buy the T-Shirt!
It’s an oddball scale, and it represents the prototype configuration, but i for one am glad to see this one come back.

Good Morning!
I too received two kits of CV-990 from Atlantics. I opened up the kits to check them out after the comments from Convair990A. Both clear of flash and the fuselage snapped right together. I also checked the stash on the Glencoe kit CV-880. There was no warping issues, but did find some flash. My fingers are crossed for Atlantic to come out with the old Revell DC-9-10 and the DC-8 series. With all the decals makers out there it will be hard to choose what colors to apply. Thank you Atlantics.

Dave & Dave,
Yes I received two 990s direct from Atlantis last month as well. No flash, so the original molds must have been in pretty good shape and cleaned up easily enough. Very nice NASA decal sheet as well. Now I am hunting up old Revell SAS & Swissair markings. Do any of the AM decal makers plan on issuing any CV-990 markings in the odd 1/135 scale?
Kind regards,
Dutch

<p style=”text-align: left;”>Hi everyone</p>
Would any of you know whether there are any retailer/online stores that have picked this item up to sell in the EU? Atlantis does not ship to Croatia, and those rare stores that do, have shipping costs almost double the item price. On Ebay, the kit is also only being offered with the shipping from the States. With the outrageous shipping costs off course. Thanks guys!
