If you are talking about the display model company in the UK, than yes they shut down several years ago.

Yes, Space Models Ltd is long gone; I was production manager there under its final ownership. After receivership, the moulds & mouldings were bought by a competitor, the core staff model/pattern makers formed Leading Models Ltd and the myriad sub-contractors were scattered-to-the-winds……

Or maybe it’s MAYBELLINE...............I own a Space Models Republic Express BAe 3101. Any idea how many were made and what’s the current value?

There is an aftermarket for the models, but 99% of the models were made for commercial customers such as the manufacturers, the operators, the lessors etc so availability would seem to be very limited……

Or maybe it’s MAYBELLINE...............When I was with Evergreen International Airlines, we purchased our display models (large and small) from Space Models. I visited their facility in the UK once while traveling on biz. They were awesome folks to meet, and work with. The large scale models the company purchased were under my supervision for repairs when needed. They were shipped to various air shows, trade shows, and conferences. The B747-200F and DC-8-73F models were both 1/20 scale and had full interiors with one side of the model mostly clear to show the mixed payloads. Many time the models would come back to headquarters needing repairs. something inside would come loose, or the model would get nicked. I took great pride in working on them.
I do have one Space Modes aircraft, a 1/100 scale Evergreen International Boeing 727-200 in USPS (postal service colors). Evergreen never operated the 200 series, however if they had gotten the renewal on the contract they would have employed them for the USPS.

Former colleague Carol J. was in charge of the procurement of such models from Space Models. Carol worked for the holding company. I do recall one of the final orders she made with Space Models. Aad that was the 1/144 scale model pop the HK1 Spruce Goose. She promised me one as thanks for my repairs on the airline’s display models. However I was liberated before she could procure one for me.

I own a pair of Space Models 1/72 scale Super VC-10’s. Both were damaged when I found them many years ago, and I have used parts from one to rebuild the other. It’s now in basic BOAC gold speedbird scheme, awaiting some suitable decals to complete it. One of these days…..
