Hello all
im trying to restore an old Entex 1/100 scale Boeing 707 kit and need to scratch build the landing gear as my kit took a beating during the move. I have the wheels but need help with creating the struts, braces and doors. I figured I’d ask the professionals here in hopes someone has done this before. I also need some ideas as to how to create clear lenses for the navigation lights on the wings. I’ve heard Micro Crystal Clear can be used but I haven’t tried that. Let me know what you all feel would work and as always, thank you all in advance. I greatly appreciate the help

September 25, 2025 at 4:37 pm #249461Can’t help with the landing gear, Mark. But when it comes to clear lenses, you have several options. If you’re going onto a flat surface (as in wing landing lights), clear styrene sheet should take care of that. For wingtip lights, there are a couple of options. Clear round sprue sanded and polished to fit is one. Your idea of using Kristal Klear is also a possibility. Though I find that the PVA emulsion tends to dry rather cloudy when layered to build up the part. It also sags when dry. A better option, IMO, is Humbrol Clearfix. It might require several layers. But it remains clear throughout the whole process. I’d also suggest that you paint the red and green wingtip lights prior to applying any clear medium. HTH
