Rarest Hasegawa Kit Ever?

Hi, after 10 years of searching for this kit, I was able to find it in Switzerland. It was never advertised and I only knew about it from a friend who said he saw it for sale in 1986 at ZRH. It was clearly for the Swiss market so I can not confirm if it was sold in any other European countries. I know that they also included Swissair decals in the Air France 747-200 kit, which I have yet to see. The price tag is from Franz Carl Weber, a Swiss toy store. I don’t know if the date is “September 1990” or if that is the price. Someone can help? Unfortunately, the kit did not have the instruction guide with it. I’d like to know if they included a separate decal guide for the Swissair decals or not.

Does anybody have photos of the 747-200 Swiss kit or an instruction guide for this kit? Do we know if Hasegawa added decals to any other kits for different airlines i.e. Iberia, etc.

Found this little gem in my stash…..Its complete…I’ve had this one for more than 20 years.

Is this the 747 kit you were referring to?

Jennings mentioned the yellow Swissair crosses

I’ve always thought it a shame that Hasegawa made beautiful 1/200 scale airliners but the decals had a problem with yellowing. Granted I know they are old but there are other decals/kits from that vintage where the decals still look good.

Every company has to have something they do well and something not as good. For Hasegawa airliners the old decals seem to be a sore spot.

The kit I was referring to is the Air France 747-200 kit with the added “Swissair decals inside” sticker, like on the DC-10 kit. Have never seen one with decals. That 743 kit is fantastic though.

Ken, all the hasegawa decals seem to go to crap after 10 years. Even the “new” stuff from the 90’s is usually brittle and shatters. Its a shame, because when they do work, they are really good at conforming to surfaces and look great. I’d like to re-coat some of the decals from the 80’s and give it a shot.

I have numerous older Hasegawa kits and all of the decals are unusable because of the yellowing mentioned above.

It’s not because they’re old. They were yellow when they were new. I’ve always found it odd that the Japanese seem to be able to master almost any kind of industrial task they take on. They kicked the world’s butt in electronics in the 1960s, cameras in the 1950s onward, cars in the 1970s onward, etc. But high quality decal printing is something that continues to elude them even in 2021.
