Hello fine folks of Airlinercafe.
After lurking this site for years, I finally paid the $10 and joined about a month ago. Even though I haven’t built a kit in over a decade, I love all things airliner related, and I enjoy some of the wonderful creations and interesting discussions shared on this site.
I’m very dismayed that of the handful of posts I’ve made so far on these forums, 3 have been deleted in the last 48 hours without any explanation or notice. Now, these posts were not spam, they did not contain profanity or other harsh language, they were directly related to the conversation, and frankly, I am stunned and confused as to why they were deleted. What rule did I break? Why were my posts deleted?
I have to say, I’ve noticed a decline in forum activity on this site over the past 5 years or so. If a heavy-handed moderator is stifling discussion or turning people off to this site, well, that’s really sad. As far as I know, this is the only website strictly dedicated to all things airliner kit building. It’s really a shame to discover it’s also seemingly one of the most censored sites on the internet!
I would appreciate an explanation from the moderator(s) regarding why my posts were removed. I’m really hoping this was simply some sort of glitch in the forum software. If this is the case, then I apologize for blaming overmoderation. But if this is the norm here, then I would kindly ask that my forum account be suspended and my $10 promptly refunded, as this is not the community I thought it was.

January 28, 2020 at 4:22 am #157726Do you even remember the rules you agreed to when registering? I bet you don’t. You simply clicked on I Agree.
When you don’t say anything meaningful and you’re simply provoking someone, then your posts will be deleted. One of the rules you agreed to when registering, was that you be at least 13 years of age. Based on your previous posts I thought you might be 11 or 12, and I was going to kick you out for that.
Now, if you’re going to contribute to the site and actually say something that adds to the conversation, then that’s great. If you’re going to be childish and simply try to cause an argument, then please leave now and I will close your account.
Thanks,
ahmed

When a clown moves into a palace, he doesn't become a king. The palace becomes a circus.January 28, 2020 at 4:32 am #157727I assumed the rules would be similar to the half dozen or so other forums where I’m a regular contributor and have never had a single post removed.
If you’ll recall the discussion in the Jennings thread, I was responding to provocation, not the other way around. And again, I didn’t use any foul language or anything of the sort. The entire thing was rather innocuous, yet you deleted what, 5 or 6 posts?

Welcome to the group and I truly mean it. I missed your posts so can’t comment on/about them. AirlinerCafe is Ahmed’s group and he runs a tight ship overall like it or not.Ken

January 28, 2020 at 4:52 am #157729You simply kept stating to him what was the meaning of the post and then another provocation after that when you told him he needs to learn how to read and comprehend, or something along those lines. Basically, posts from both sides got deleted as they were pointless.
Sorry folks, I need to be a little heavy-handed here or things can get out of control real quick, as we have witnessed in the past…
Thanks,

Again, the entire discussion was rather innocuous. Maybe it wasn’t the most jovial of exchanges, but it was civil enough and easily tolerated by any normal person of sound mind.
Just about every forum or service which charges a fee to join offers more freedoms, not less. If this is your ship, and you’re going to be such a tightwad, then I would like off of it. So please refund my $10. Thank you, have a nice day, and loosen up a little.
It seems like everyone regularly posting here is an adult, so let adults have adult conversations, even if they make you a teensy-weensy bit uncomfortable. Now I know why forum activity has slowed to a trickle on this site: half of all posts are deleted by the moderator!

WalterJanuary 28, 2020 at 8:48 am #157735Thanks Walter! It’s a tough job, but somebody has to do it.

Flyswatter has to understand that people come to a’cafe because we’re not like those other sites.
And, FYI, forum activity and site traffic is not down. Last year was our biggest year yet. Take a look…

As far as I know, none of my posts have ever been deleted. And, I have to say that Ahmed has been quite lenient with many posts I’ve seen here that could be viewed as pretty provocative since he has only admonished those involved to calm down, take it easy and don’t insult one another. If anything, I think Ahmed gives all of us a lot of slack and I have never felt that he was being unreasonable in his moderating.
This is a pretty nice forum if you ask me, and I have no complaints. Oh, and please pass the sugar…..

“I don’t understand the point of this thread.”
Now, was it a high quality contribution on my part? No. But worthy of being deleted without any prior warning? He gives all of us a lot of slack? Ha.

January 29, 2020 at 5:08 pm #157751Happily retired as I am from serving as moderator of another airliner-modeling group, all I can say is that those of us lucky/unfortunate enough to hold the keys know that each day and each thread brings a risk of upsetting someone, at the least a series of hurt feelings and at worst some sort of threat. We also learn quickly that we’re damned if we take action and damned if we don’t.
For my part, I am amazed by the restraint and goodwill Ahmed routinely displays and exercises here. He has more patience than I will ever possess. This is one of the dwindling number of sites with discussion boards that I still enjoy, because Ahmed tends to keep things from getting too much out of hand.
