Dear All,
this is to find out about your opinions and interest in a potential Dreamliner fuselage kit from Kurt.
Wouldn’t that be a cool thing? As you know, the Zvezda/Revell kit suffers from having a wrong wing box. So the rivet counters among us may wish to see this corrected. On another note, the engraved detail on the Dreamliner (as on the Zvezda 767-300) is done so overly fine, that any kind of paint applied drowns all panel lines making them invisible. These kits simply cannot compete with the ultra-high standards of the IL-62, TU-134, IL-76 and 737-8, still they are very valuable and appreciated kits that deserve being revisited by our resin master.
I am well aware that BrazModel supplies wing center pieces to correct for the wing box error.
I want to ask you for the favor to summarize here, if there are more errors on the Dreamliner kit that needs attention? Shape? Windows? Wings? Engines? Gear?
The Zvezda/Revell kit is absolutely the same plastic, no difference except for gray/white plastic.
Yes, the Zvezda -9 has a few issues of the wing box corrected but by far not enough to call it accurate. Jennings supplied us with very helpful drawings to document these errors.Which version would you prefer to see first?
Starting with the -8 might be my favorite choice, followed by the -9 and -10 if successful. The kit would so far feature
– full resin fuselage to replace the Zvezda/Revell fuselage
– no tail sitter
– no windows (AA decals required as always, yes, they are available)
– super detailed engravings that don’t drown when being airbrushed/sprayedAA Decals is just providing us with amazingly beautiful decals for the Vietnam Airlines 787 and I personally think it deserves being applied to another gem from Kurt ) However, just my two cents.
Kurts 767-200 kit also started out as a fuselage replacement idea, but since we found more and more bugs on the rest of the kit, it turned into a full model! So let’s see )
To conclude, maybe many of you are happy having the Zvezda/Revell Dreamliner and the BrazModel wing box tubes, and that is absolutely fine — but for the rivet counters among us — would you support a Dreamliner kit from Kurt?
I look forward to a lively discussion here my friends!
Cheers,
Christian

www.christianklepp.comMay 5, 2017 at 7:51 pm #151704Personally the 787 is far from my favorite airplane (that nose….) to model… To date I have not even purchased a 787 kit of any kind. However I do plan to do at least a couple! Bring on a AA Kit!

May 5, 2017 at 9:27 pm #151706Hmm… the nose is the most attractive part of the 787 to me. It’s positively organic looking.

May 6, 2017 at 12:00 am #151710Mee too! Hate the nose, and why do we need that ugly band around the radome? The best part of the 787 are the wings and engines, IMO of course.
Thanks,
ahmed
KSFOMay 6, 2017 at 3:56 am #151713Hmmmmm I’m thinking about it.
For what its worth I like the Zvezda kit/Engines and Braz GE engines. The wingbox is a pain and Braz did a fix which is very well done but more work.
I’m on board for a an AA kit of the 787. Especially as where I work now just purchased 20 787s:D

May 6, 2017 at 6:26 am #151716I’d like to see the new -10 as well as the -8 and -9. First flight was a few weeks ago and delivery to UAL is eminent.

May 6, 2017 at 7:57 am #151719I’m hardly a rivet counter. And, like Chris & Ahmed, I also didn’t care
much for the nose, initially. But I’ve gotten over the nose issue to the
point that I actually am liking it, and the radome band as well. All that
said, I’d be well on board for an AA fuselage…all 3 of them. Probably
several of each. OUCH!

Regarding the engines, which ones do the Revell/Zvezda kits represent? There could be a market there.

Hmm… the nose is the most attractive part of the 787 to me. It’s positively organic looking. Can you imagine how slick the 78 would look if Boeing had stayed with the original shark tail? Drool…
I would like a new AA 787 but… With the existing kits out there, whatever their problems, I’d be very worried that Kurt would make a large investment in capital and time only to have potential customers still buy the existing (inaccurate) styrene kits due to cost issues. Were he to do it, I’d suggest the 787-10 as there isn’t a kit of it currently. Strike when the iron is hot, and all that. Honestly, I would like one but I’m so pressed for cash right now that I can’t commit to buying one as I’m saving for Kurt’s 762s and another 744 later this summer. I want one, I just don’t know where the money’s coming from!

May 9, 2017 at 3:44 am #151746I am most amused by the comments on the 787 nose ,don’t you think it resembles the Comet (clearly de- havilland got the aerodynamics right first time) ! Well the nose anyway!
As for the wing, every time I do my preflight walk round I think it looks like something Michelangelo sculptured it’s so exquisite(and it flys beautifully)Mark

April 26, 2020 at 10:07 pm #158473The Zvezda 787 (which, I hope, I will commence soon after too long a wait) is more than adequate for my needs. I know the issues with the wing box and engines, but am content to fix those on my own.
To be honest, I’d be more interested in Kurt being able to complete some of the projects he already has underway. I’m also more interested in Kurt being able to get some of his older kits back in stock. There are several I would like to have, but they’re more often than not unavailable.

April 27, 2020 at 5:39 am #158478I’ll take one of each at least. Definitely one each in UAL colors and possibly -9s and -8s in BA, AC and one in Aeromexico. Bring them on.

Speaking purely for myself I rarely build resin kits and I never build big resin kits so an Authentic Airliners Dreamliner of any variety wouldn’t be on my shopping list. Like Jodie I would rather see better availability of the existing range, particularly the staples like the 727s, 737-200 and BAC 1-11s. If Kurt really is looking for a new project, how about the Fokker 70?

April 28, 2020 at 7:47 am #158493I do indeed realize that AA kits do not come with decals. Just showing interest in purchasing a number of the proposed 787 kits that he may do. Hope these come to fruition. I’m also interested in a 1/200 scale line of planes too should that become available. AA kits are really great. I really like them.
