KSFOApril 26, 2022 at 4:24 pm #178465Dear aro757, I take that any image previously uploaded to the forum from one’s own files have not survived the migration to the new version?

Or maybe it’s MAYBELLINE...............April 26, 2022 at 4:43 pm #178480Hi Terry,
No, I would not say that at all. A very small percentage that had malformed urls, like spaces in the file name or special characters may not have made it over. We tried to fix as many bad urls as possible through the script, but it may have missed a few. The vast majority did make it over, like your photos in the Caravelle landing gear thread:

KSFOApril 26, 2022 at 6:10 pm #178520Do you want me to add missing images to my old posts as and when I find they have gone aro757?

Or maybe it’s MAYBELLINE...............April 26, 2022 at 10:15 pm #178582I don’t think you can edit old posts, but just uploading them to the Media Library will most likely fix the issue. Let me know if it doesn’t, we might have to adjust the image url. Thanks!

ahmed
KSFOApril 27, 2022 at 6:05 am #178650Hi Ahmed, I noticed the same thing Terry mentioned, the pics for a thread I created have disappeared. But I also noticed there seems to be an edit that you did, where there is a malformed URL for a missing image. I tried the URL but I get a 404.
Here’s the thread in question:
Here’s a screengrab of the edit:
Is there a way for me to see images I had under the old “My files” section? None of them are appearing in my media.
thanks!

AKL NZApril 27, 2022 at 7:23 am #179126Hi George,
Thanks for letting me know. I did another pass for missing images and it looks like it brought over more images. Please let me know if you are seeing any that are still missing.
@Caravellarella please check again. Thanks!
Thanks,
ahmed
KSFOApril 27, 2022 at 12:20 pm #179129Oh, I’ve just started reposting the images further down in the thread/topic as I find they are missing aro757.

Or maybe it’s MAYBELLINE...............April 27, 2022 at 5:16 pm #179137Hi Terry,
Please do not post images as Attachments. Attachments are for files like PDF files. Use the Add Media button and insert the images into the post. Thanks!

KSFOApril 27, 2022 at 7:00 pm #179146Hi. Will the database migrate too? i.e. when one searches for example revell 747 1:144 and you get all the relevant pictures etc.
Thanks

Same question as Pavlos regarding the prior site database of model pics. Thanks.
Bill
Been building airliner models since the '70s. Clint Groves and his ATP/Airliners America catalog made be realize I wasn't the only one with this interest. Pleased that the hobby has progressed from generally inaccurate models and decals to extreme detail and precision.
April 27, 2022 at 10:05 pm #179210Hi Pavlos, I believe Ahmed is still to do the Kit and Decal database migration.
Hi @aro757
I have found another thread of mine which has missing pictures. Can you do another sweep?
https://airlinercafe.com/forums/topic/mach-2-dc-8-50-air-new-zealand-1-72-buildAlso, I found that some of my photos I had uploaded to the old site were in ‘deleted’ folders in the gallery. I have restored the folders, but is it OK to do this and do they need to be published? (they are in ‘draft’ status)
Some of the deleted photos were those which I had inserted into my DC-8 build thread.
So sorry for all the questions! Thank you Ahmed for this fantastic website.

AKL NZApril 27, 2022 at 10:33 pm #179225Hi George,
Sure, if you’d like, you can make those folders public, but please rename them first. Rename, save, and publish.
If you go to your Media Library, do you see the missing images there? If they are there, then they should display in the forum post as well.
Thanks,
ahmed
KSFOApril 28, 2022 at 1:08 am #179231Ok aro757, I’ve deleted the images, but how do I delete the posts that are now image-less? Also, how do I edit any of my posts for that matter? I can’t see an edit function or quote function anywhere. The old site’s quote function and reply function were very useful for responding to a specific point/comment. Will there be any function for typing text in a colour too?

Or maybe it’s MAYBELLINE...............April 28, 2022 at 1:53 am #179236Ok, thanks. I deleted those posts. You can create new posts and insert the images, but first please clean up the file name. Here’s an example of one of your files: 622-tc-jbb 1…….jpg
They are all in the Media Library, but they are not displaying because you have spaces, special characters and several dots in the file names. File names should be letters and numbers with hyphens in between the words.
Quotes and signatures are coming back, colors no.
Thanks,
ahmed
KSFOApril 28, 2022 at 6:59 am #179276Hi Ahmed,
Thanks for the reply. No, I don’t see the images under my Media, I see them in the Gallery. I just realised if I publish then of course they will be visible across the member galleries, doh! Most of the folders I recovered I don’t want to publish for now.

AKL NZMay 9, 2022 at 3:07 pm #180272Any idea why this error pops up?
I checked and made sure the file size was <2 MB, and still saw it.

May 9, 2022 at 3:17 pm #180278I think I figured it out: if you add one picture that’s over the 2 MB limit, then it won’t let you go back and add another. I was able to open a different post and do it there, not sure why.

May 9, 2022 at 3:37 pm #180285Is there a max post length? I wrote a longer one just now and when I hit “submit,” it disappeared instead of posting as a reply.
Edit: workaround was to post as a few sub-posts.

May 10, 2022 at 4:18 am #180342Right now the limit is set to 5 photos per post. If you have more than 5 photos, it simply puts the post in a moderation queue for approval. There should be an error message displayed when this happen. You may have missed it.
There is also a 2MB limit to the size of photos. I have to verify if it’s 2MB total or just 2MB per image. I’ll let you know.
Thanks,
ahmed
KSFOMay 10, 2022 at 1:09 pm #180345On the old site, I could easily find the photos and threads which I posted by clicking “my photos.” So what’s the new solution? I cannot find any of my old stuff, except in a couple of “topics I started.”

May 10, 2022 at 3:36 pm #180346Thanks for confirming, Ahmed. I didn’t see an error message, where on the screen would it be? I’m pretty sure the 2 MB is per image, I had a few pictures with 1.xx in there on the same post.

May 10, 2022 at 7:25 pm #180350Hi Merlin,
Your post is pending because it had 7 images inserted. The limit to avoid moderation was 5, I just changed it to 10. I think that should be enough. The error message appears at the top of the text area, but it probably blends in a little too well and goes unnoticed. I will make it stand out more.
Thanks,
ahmed
KSFOMay 10, 2022 at 7:26 pm #180351Hi @Caravellarella,
I’ve just opened it up so you can edit it, for a few days. After that they will get locked up again, it’s not safe keeping posts open that long.
Thanks,
ahmed
KSFOMay 11, 2022 at 1:48 pm #180379Hi Ahmed, I think it would be fine to have to lastest post in the forum first. like we had it on the old site. as I see this is a normal wordpress forum integration this should work (technically). what do you think. cheers, Oliver

May 12, 2022 at 6:09 am #180397Hi Oliver,
In the forum sections the latest posts are listed first. When a new thread is started or if a reply is made, no matter how old the thread, it jumps to the top. Or are you referring to something else?
Thanks,
ahmed
KSFOJune 2, 2022 at 3:17 am #181617I think what Oliver is getting at is a way to know which threads have new posts, and where on the page those are. On the old site, you could see the yellow highlight and then click that and get dropped at the first new post since you last visited. Having something like that would be a good usability enhancement.

June 5, 2022 at 4:58 am #181874Ok, I think I know what you’re talking about. You are referring to the Latest Posts list on the homepage, correct? On the old site, when you clicked on it, it simply took you to the last post in that thread, not the first post since your last visit. I can do the same here. The yellow color indicated that there were new posts in that thread.
Thanks,
ahmed
KSFOJune 5, 2022 at 5:30 am #181876That’s what I’d find useful, not 100% sure what Oliver wants, that’s his thing I suppose 😀

Ok, step one is done. If I have coded it correctly, any new topics or topics with new replies since your last login, should have a yellow arrow. Any thread that has not had any new posts since your last login to the site, should display a blue arrow.
To figure out exactly which post a user has read or unread, unfortunately takes a huge performance hit. So, for now, if the link on the homepage simply takes you to the last reply in that thread. I will keep looking into it.
Thanks,
ahmed
KSFOJune 9, 2022 at 10:16 pm #181961Thanks! The “go to last post” piece works, I’ll keep an eye on the arrows for next time.

June 27, 2022 at 9:27 am #182277Hi Ahmed,
I’m sorry to say that, but the old site was much better.
For example: I was able to see all 727’s photos in tiny thumbnails and look into the ones that attracted my attention.
The “straw” we can get information through is now way narrower in your website. All the best

July 13, 2022 at 10:18 pm #182721What happened to the edit message function?

July 15, 2022 at 12:05 am #182754What happened to the edit message function?
Ahmed mentioned that one has a short time (10 mins?) to edit a new post and then it can’t be edited. So much for typing and removing something you wish you hadn’t posted.

July 15, 2022 at 12:49 am #182755Thanks Ken. It’s actually been increased to 20 minutes. Why would you need longer than that? Someone editing a post hours or days later could drastically change the conversation.
Thanks,
ahmed
