Dear All,
Kurt is currently working intensely on what I call his ultimate kit:The Boeing 747 Jumbo Jet in 1:144
I had the honor of being able to have the first parts of this kit in my own hands a few days ago and I can promise you, this is going to be a mind blowing kit!
However, the most exciting news is that Kurt is planning to realize the entire Boeing 747 series!
He is starting with the Boeing 747-400 that is scheduled already for end of July 2016. It comes with an extremely detailed landing gear that consists out of approx. 50 parts! The first kits will have GE engines, followed by the PW and RR versions later this year.
The price for the kit will be 149, – Euro. Remember, this kit is huge and it’s the best detailed and most precise 747 in production you have ever seen.
The engine version has to be pre-selected. All individual parts are quality-checked and sorted by Kurt which is a time consuming task because the resin parts are delivered as a jumble.
3-D detailed window decals are already available for this kit from Kurt’s brother:
http://www.authentic-airliner-decals.de/epages/17895661.sf/en_GB/?ObjectPath=/Shops/17895661/Categories/NEU/VORSCHAUThe versions planned to materialize are:
747-400 by July 2016 (GE,PW,RR—pax/combi/converted long-upperdeck freighter versions)
747SP (PW,RR versions)
747-100/200 (PW,GE—pax/combi/freighter versions)
747-300 (versions to decided later)You can imagine that this project comes with a substantial risk for Kurt. The minimum batch number that can be produced is 25 kits of each major version and Kurt needs to produce a master for each of the 4 Jumbos.
149 Euros is a lot of money—but definitely not a high price for that model. If Kurt would charge us for the countless hours and material used to produce the masters his kits would have astronomical prices. This all comes for free! What you pay is the mere production cost of your individual resin kit, a process that cannot be done at that level of detail in a backdoor garage. Kurt has to give his master away to a company for this production step. Remember, these are limited runs in batches of 25 copies.
To estimate the production numbers of the 747 versions and to reduce Kurt’s financial risk I suggest discussing a full-price pre-order system once Kurt decided on the production of a specific 747 series.
So here’s the poll:
Who signs in for firm orders for the following 747 versions:
747-400
747SP
747-100/200
747-300This 747 series is a dream coming true and I am very grateful that Kurt accepted that challenge—and I am sure you see it the same way. I was discussing especially the 747SP for a long time with him. Let’s just make sure that this enterprise will not turn into a financial nightmare for him!
Cheers,
ChristianPS: One a private note, I have no commercial connection to Kurt’s business but am simply amazed about the quality of his kits (being a quality nerd myself) and hence will support every effort that helps Kurt to realize the 747 series.

April 8, 2016 at 4:58 pm #147620Wonderful news! I would absolutely love to purchase a 744 with PW engines….just need to find the funds! I guess I don’t need to worry about trying to convert the Zvezda or Revell 748 kits that I purchased last year Maybe I’ll try and sell them instead.

I’m taking a classic -100/-200 with PW when it’s available. As the -SP will arrive before, I’ll take an -SP too. Well in fact I’d love to have all variants but I must be careful with the costs so my priority will go to the Classic version first…

Apart from the 100/200 series, I am interested in all the types, certainly 2x SP both enginetypes and at least 1 of the 300 and 400 series!
Kurt, I have been buying from you for a long time and I do not think that this will change easily in the near future!
So please keep on making these top models!!

April 10, 2016 at 9:20 pm #147671Hello forum members,
As the old saying goes, long time lurker, first time poster :act. I chose to post my very first message on this topic as the Queen of the Skies is sort of an obsession to me, but I guess it is the case with lots of airliner freaks.
I have to say I am delighted to see this project come to life, I never understood why the old versions were not covered by mainstream brands in modern tooling (lack of interest ? too old versions less popular today ?) anyway having these released by AA is great news.
I am interested in the following :
3x 747-400, 1 of each PW, GE and RR versions
2x 747SP, 1 of each PW and RR versions
2x 747-100/200, 1 of each PW and GE versions (if RR available, I will order 1 as well)
3x 747-300, 1 of each PW, GE and RR versions (if released)Being an incredible project from AA, I see absolutely no issue with the full-price pre-order system, I believe AA should not be left with slow seller kits while the demand was high when it was only a distant possibility.
Do we have any indication about the fuselage design, will it be full resin or hollowed out, even slightly ? I just cannot wait for the first version to be released.

April 11, 2016 at 2:11 am #147673I go away from Airlinercafe for a few months and look what happens – a 747 from Kurt! My mind is officially blown. I’ve got two of the Revell kits in the stash and was contenplating starting on, and now this. Wow…
149 Euros is about $170 under today’s exchange rate, so one model is very affordable. For those who may be a little bit shellshocked at the price, remember, what you get from AA is simply the best there is quality wise, period. I tend to sell old models I don’t want on Ebay and such, so I’ll just clear out the stash of stuff I’ll never build and put the proceeds towards one of these beauties. Simple.
You can put me down for:
– One 747-400, any engine being fine. Rolls gets me Qantas and BA, Pratt gets me UAL. I’ll be happy either way. Which engine type did Continental fly briefly in their new colors?
– MAYBE one 747-100/200 as that would get me TWA or American Airlines. Again, budget permitting. I’ll probably be able to swing this, but I don’t want to fully commit until confirmation of my summer job comes through. At any rate, definitely one 747-400.

Quick question, don’t the early 100s have 46″ main gear tires unlike the 50″ ones on the later 200/300/400? I heard they had the same wheels as the 707 early on for commonality, so it shouldn’t be an issue to just make more of them. April 11, 2016 at 9:40 am #147679You’re right, they were 100s/200s. A few did carry the late scheme, though, and looked gorgeous; definitely classy looking. That might be a reason to get another AA 747. Hmmm…

I tried to summarise 747 tire size thanks to Boeing documentation, this is what I got.
747-100, 46x16in nose and main tires or 49x17in nose and main tires, depending on the t/o weight
747-200/300, 49x17in nose and main tires or 49x19in nose and main tires, depending on the t/o weight
747SP, 49x17in nose and surprisingly 46x16in main tires
747-400, 49x17in nose and 49x19in main tires
747-400ER, 50x20in nose and main tires
747-8, 50x20in nose and 52x21in main tiresThose main and wing landing gear assemblies look fabulous, I hope they will be cast in brass (?) as on the MD-11. If there was an airliner I wanted to build fleets of, that would very be the 747. Thank you so much Authentic Airliners !

April 13, 2016 at 8:13 am #147706Two more questions I had on variations:
1. Will the 100/200 PW come with the early straight pylon or the kinked one?
2. Which WBF will go on the 300? It probably makes sense to do the early ones seeing as the change was made in 1988.

I decided however, not to introduce a pre-payment scheme, as this would cause even more work on top what I already have.
But, I definitely know now what comes after the 744, namely the -SP . Also, I will go ahead with the other variants later too, probably next year.Kurt

April 15, 2016 at 10:55 pm #147776That sounds great. AS I said earlier, I’ll snag one 744 for sure, though probably not an SP. The type has just never done anything for me, even in UA colors. The more I think on it, the more I’m intrigued by getting a -100/200. Hey, it could become the ultimate NASA shuttle carrier! That would be a super modeling project for someone to undertake.

April 22, 2016 at 4:34 am #147870FWIW… I own quite a few AA kits (around 10 I think) and I’ve never had to wait more than a few weeks for the model I wanted to be back in stock. Even the new ones (MD-11, DC-8, L-1011). In any event they are well worth the wait!!!
