Interesting 10-min video on how Lufthansa is extending the life of its 747-400 and -8 aircraft due to delays in delivery of the 777.
I didn’t even know they were still flying 400s .
I might yet get to fly a 747-8 since Lufthansa is now operating out of GLA for transatlantic flights via FRA.
So many kits, so little time …
March 12, 2025 at 2:10 am #247652This is great news. I was on a 747-400 D-ABVX IAD to FRA in the dome last week! I will try to complete her model this year with AA 1/144 kit.

March 12, 2025 at 5:55 pm #247659Long live the queen! I was fortunate enough to fly on a few of these back in 2016-2017 upstairs, I strongly recommend giving it a whirl before they’re all gone.

March 13, 2025 at 10:22 am #247666Good luck with your AA kit DullesFlyer.
I don’t know if they’d allow the likes of me upstairs but it would definitely be nice to fly the queen at least one more time.
Except on one occasion, I’ve never opted for those routes from GB to the U.S. via one of the continental European hubs as, apart from another 5 or 6 hours journey time, the idea of starting off 180 deg in the wrong direction clashes with my feng shui.
However, the opportunity to experience the 747, possibly for the last time, is very tempting and I might break open my piggy bank to indulge that desire.

Yeah, it can be silly to go in the wrong direction only to overfly your starting point. Maybe try it when you’re on the continent for another reason. All of my trips were using 15000 United points that I spent for the upgrade, don’t think I ever would have paid full price. There’s a bunch of different ways to score good tickets on the cheap, just takes some sleuthing and timing.

Good luck on that build, keep us posted! I very much enjoyed building the AA 744, though I regret attaching the wings before painting. I strongly recommend a technique that Kurt taught me, namely making the mounting pegs fit snugly by adding styrene if needed, then using Dave’s tape/CA (or Bondo, my new preference) technique to get a close fit.
