Hi
My first post on the group even though I’ve been a lurker for a while.
I wish to model a Jet2 airliner having them use Manchester I always thought they looked attractive.
However the silver/grey paint looks difficult to match as the silver paints I have don’t look right.
Anyone advise me if there is a paint that would suit? I remember that Halfords once did a silver that was near to the colour but cannot say which one or if it’s still available.
Thanks

July 16, 2025 at 1:24 pm #248755Mark, welcome to the forum!! I’m not entirely sure about the correct paint to use for the Jet2 scheme, I wager one of the decal makers has a good recommendation for it. One thing I will say about those metallic paints is that they look very different under different lighting conditions and as they age and bleach out. Then you bake in scale effect and you can give yourself another 10%. This means that you can give yourself a bit of slack if you don’t nail the paint match 100%. I see airplanes at work with swapped radomes and engine cowls that used to all be the same color, but now look very different due to aging, dirt, and paint wear.

You are right about light conditions and weathering something I forgot to take into account.

I’m looking at a Jet2 737 on A-Net now. My suggestion..don’t be afraid to mix colours. A mid to darker grey combined with a silver for the metallic effect could work for you. Naturally, test on scrap prior to painting the model. Good luck.

I have read – I don’t recall where – the following suggestions for recreating Jet2’s colours.
I have not tried them myself, but you may wish to look into their suitability.
Silver – Tamiya TS-76 Silver over-sprayed with TS-65 Pearl Clear, or just Tamiya LP 72 Mica Silver
Red – Testors (now hard to find) Gloss Red 1103 (perhaps now superseded by ModelMaster FMM 1503 Brilliant Red ?), or Tamiya LP-7 Red, or LP-50
As I say, I have no experience with any of these but they may help as a starting point.
Good luck !

I have tried these colours and they don’t work. The silver is too bright and vivid. Under some lighting conditions a real Jet2 aircraft looks almost grey (or gray if you’re American). Personally I would use Humbrol 56 as the starting point adding various light greys and possibly a little white until it looks right. I would then do a trial spray on a plastic cup or something similar before committing to the model.
