Hello!
Does anyone have any of the original Eastern 727 1/98 Aurora decals? The re-release Atantis decals are so bad. I don’t need the kit – just the decal sheet. The Eastern Caribbean blue cheatline on these old decals is what I’m looking for. I’ve used clear coat on one of these old sheets and it works perfectly – BUT, I need another sheet for touch ups. Trying to match that Caribbean blue is tough – so, I’m looking for this 1970s release. Thanks!!!

January 31, 2024 at 5:22 pm #244992I feel for you 727Whisperjet. I transferred my kit decal into a sealed box box to hold dry ( kit box & contents were later caught in a sump pump failure flood) until kit was built 40 years later. That lovely night time box cover scene still becomes an instant memory to me whenever I see my built kit. That light blue color I’ve never seen again duplicated so lushly as the Aurora decal. Most of the Eastern “Hockey Stick” decals seem to have a pasty Lt Blue hue. I wish I could help you with a decal spare, and if you can’t get one I really wish you the best on trying to match a paint colors to that decal blue.

I have that kit, however it’s still sealed in the original shrink wrap from 1968. I did get a set made by Mike Vykukal of Vintage Flyer Decals in 1/96 scale (VFD096-217-SP). You may try Mike. It’s a beautiful decal. My very first flight was on an Eastern 727-100 in this scheme in 1968! I do also love the box art!

January 31, 2024 at 10:09 pm #244994Thanks to you both!
I’ll try to match the paint, and, if all fails, I’ll buy an old kit on Ebay with the decal sheet. I will also try “Mike” – thanks again! Great memories as a kid building this model – which is why I’m trying to use the original decals. I will say that I used one coat of the Japanese premium TopCoat (gloss) on the old decals – and with a good water soak, tweezers and a little Microsol they look beautiful when applied. The hardest part is the hockey stick “bend” …. an unforgiving angle. The wrap around #1 and #2 engine with the 2 colors will be challenging…stay tuned. Thanks again!
