Currently discussed at Airliners.net is a livery change for Air Canada for their 80th anniversary.
IMHO I just hope that this will not come true.
I love the current ice-blue scheme and cannot see why they want to change such a stunning livery to something uninspired like this

Personally, I think Etihad did a great job on their 787 and A380 …

January 8, 2017 at 10:38 pm #150228I quite like the “toothpaste” scheme, I’ll be bummed if it goes.

January 9, 2017 at 1:31 am #150230Possibly Air Canada Rouge gave us all a hint of what was to come… I hope not, I too like the ice-blue scheme.

January 9, 2017 at 3:00 am #150231That seems to be the trend. Look at what happened to China Eastern. Disgusting! And they have the nerve to call it an improvement.
Thanks,

KSFOJanuary 9, 2017 at 5:36 am #150232I’m always in doubt:
Is it pale blue or pale green???? :con
Or pale turquoise???? :conI really can’t describe that color
and I’m always think about when an AIR CANADA
is at the neighbor gate here at FRA….Sven

January 9, 2017 at 5:47 am #150233Ha…….I’ll add a dissenting opinion that I think I will like the change. I never did care for the “toothpaste” scheme. My favorite was the the old red tail and fuselage titles. Yes a change to the all white fuselage will be for the better this time.
Most recent changes I think are not for the better. If they pick the lower choice with the full size maple leaf logo I think it will be a little bit better than the current one. To each his own.

January 9, 2017 at 11:03 am #150236Sven,
it seems to be neither pale blue nor pale green and even not pale turquoise )
The toothpaste color is, as I recently learned, officially called***sky silver***
according to Air Canada …
Well … ))
This color seems to be like coroguard … it looks different every time you look at it.
At least the Xtracolor can stuff looks like being something like ice-blue.Cheers,

At least the Xtracolor can stuff looks like being something like ice-blue.It could be that this is the result of many pictures taken in Canada with snow on the ground, which reflects the sunlight (or not if there is no snow), making the belly look lighter.
I really hope the do not change the livery. Not only do I find the current scheme better, I also find it a waste of money to change your branding every 5 – 10 years. For how long has the current livery been around? That money could have been spend on much better projects if you ask me (I know they won’t).
If they do decide to change it I hope it will be the third option, which is like cola light. It is not better or healthier, it is just less worse…

January 10, 2017 at 6:12 am #150243I’m not thrilled with those proposed designs, but I’ve always found the “ice blue” (which I swear is green) nauseating. It seems to have no “Canada” to it at all. I loved the former dark green tail. Should have kept that.

Well, I liked the BA world colors scheme too. Apparently I was the only person on the planet who thought it was the most brilliant marketing scheme ever devised.

February 10, 2017 at 2:42 am #150659I don’t *hate* it… But what in the world is with the black paint around the windscreen?

February 10, 2017 at 5:23 am #150665The refresh probably has to do with the 80th anniversary of Air Canada. While I am not a huge fan of the excessive use of black in this design, overall the new scheme is a huge look back to the first days of Air Canada. The ‘mask’ was a predominant feature of the first scheme although back in the day, is extended to the anti-glare section of the nose. The 747-100 was the most exaggerated example (but one many of us Canadians fondly remember). The airline text is black, also a nod to its past. Also brought back from retirement is the roundel maple leaf that we have already seen with the Rouge division. I always found that a classy, distinctive logo, much like the BOAC Speedbird, LH Crane or KL crown. Our national symbol encircled by the world. I don’t understand though why this element of design is seen below the cheatline and at the base of the rudder, as though being a world class carrier is too heavy a job.
Black will be easy for us modellers – no more fussing with paint formulae as we wrestle with the question of “is it blue or green?” Black is also conveniently located to cover up any streaking and exhaust from nacelles, systems and undercarriage

KSFOFebruary 10, 2017 at 4:03 pm #150668I actually think it’s pretty cool. It reminds me of their classic livery and it’s a lot better than the proposals posted in the first post of this thread. The black ninja bandana around the windscreen is a little weird indeed.

According to their press release:
The mask was inspired by the facial markings of Canada’s
indigenous birds, as well as by wildlife representations
found in early native culture. The clean shape of the design
defines the front windows and celebrates the flight
deck.I remember that Trans Canada Airlines had a black windshield mask of sorts.
There are some nice profiles in the press release

February 10, 2017 at 10:13 pm #150680Stormtrooper scheme, I like that. I wonder if airline branding departments ever roll the pitches out internally and ask what nicknames people will come up with or if it’s amusing (NWA silver scheme).
It does look somewhat Delta-esque, swap dark blue for black and yank the racoon eyes and you’re there.

February 11, 2017 at 4:52 am #150695I agree that the overall scheme looks very DL.
If ANA has its R2D2 etc., then AC will have 300+ Imperial storm troopers!
