I’ve read through a prior post that I had made concerning a good silver finish that wont show finger prints in it and one member recommended AK finishes. I’ve looked at their website and it shows prices in British Pounds. Are the AK products available in the US at all? I’ve not been able to find a source so far. Also I’ve used Bare Metal Foil for leading edges of wings but not Underbody or Whole Fuselage schemes. Anyone recommend using this for Planes from American, Eastern and Western Airlines? I’ve not used Alclad before either so if anyone has any tips on using this product please share as any help is always appreciated. I need to find a good tutorial on this site concerning painting tips too as I’m trying to make my models look better. Thanks for all your help in advance.

There are several tutorials on its use on YouTube.

October 25, 2019 at 10:45 pm #157135From the videos I’ve seen, that stuff looks amazing. I have to try it out soon. A far cry from the days of SNJ…
Thanks,

KSFOOctober 26, 2019 at 12:44 am #157136If you can get hold of it AK Interactive Xtreme Metal is the way to go – easy to use, durable and extremely forgiving if you need to touch it up, all the things that Alclad isn’t. I’ve used AK for several years and wouldn’t touch anything else.
Don’t forget the first principle of the natural metal finish – the result is only as good as the surface it’s applied to.

October 26, 2019 at 8:58 pm #157142I’ve been using the Ak Extreme metals for quite a while now. It’s really amazing stuff. Much more durable than alclad. You can even mask over it. Just be careful when you handle it after painting as it will come off on high-contact areas such as leading edges.
If you’re feeling brave… I’ve had good results spraying Molotow liquid chrome (well… in testing). Thin it with lacquer thinner. It looks just like polished aluminum. But… It takes FOREVER to dry. And even when it does you can still leave finger prints. You can cover it with 2k clear. I used it on an AA DC-10 I’m slowly finishing up… But unfortunately I messed up the clear coat and it turned more aluminum than polished (I didn’t yet know to use the 2k). I’m debating giving it another go on the AA 777 I’m about to start painting.

October 28, 2019 at 12:39 am #157153I join the thread at this point.
Never heard about AK Interactive before
but maybe I missed the previous thread.Sounds really good what I read here about AK Interactive.
Looking for a bare metal finish for my Lufthansa CV-440
and wanna try AK Interactive.Searched the net.
As I found out AK Interactive is a spanish company – right?
They sell the colours online as well.
Colours shipping by mail could be a problem – may be dangerous goods
and not to be shipped by mail.
Had that problem already in the past. What’s about AK Interactive colours?
Anybody know if they can shipped by mail?
Has someone ordered them online already?
Any shipping problems?Thanks so much
Sven
