Very sad news today from the UK. Long time friend and fellow airliner nut Niels Sampath died yesterday after a battle with cancer. Since I got off Facebook last year, I hadn't been in touch with him, and I wasn't aware he had been sick. Niels was one of the very first internet friends I ever made, and we had some great times together, chasing all over England to look at airplanes.

Eat dessert first - you never know what day may be your last. Niels leaves a wife and son behind.

      Blue skies, my friend.

Rest in peace Niels. Shocking news and so young...

Niels was there at the start when we first set up the IPMS(UK) Airliner SIG; I last saw him at Telford a couple of years ago

I got to know Niels via long-distance in my early days on the Airliner Modelling Digest in the late 1990s. He was not only a first-rate moderator, but also a genuinely good guy. This news hurts.

      Yes sad news....
I remember Niels as one of the founders?/moderators of the old Airliner Modeling Digest. Adding to Jennings comments about eat dessert first. Musician Warren Zevon who also passed from cancer said "Enjoy every sandwich".

      Life is finite.

      SAD.

OMG, what is this world coming to! Very sad to hear that. I spent a couple of days with Niels back in January of 2000. He picked me up from Heathrow and we went spotting around the airport, and visited Hannant's later that day as well as some sight seeing around Oxford. We also visited the Britannia facilities at Luton the next day and got a great tour.

He was a very nice guy! Definitely left this world way too soon. May he rest in peace and my sincere condolences to his friends and family.

      Regards,

Sad news indeed. My first contact with Neils was even before the first AMD by mail and iirc through The Captains Log. His input will truly be missed.
