I plan on building all of Southwests current fleet. Iím going to cut down one of the Zvezda Max 8s to make a Max 7. My question is...what is the closest match to the current Southwest Blue. Is there a paint that I can buy, or am I going to have to mix paint for that blue??? Iíve already got the decals from 8A decals. Thanks for the input.....

      Capt Rob,

I have built two Southwest jets (-800 and MAX 8) using Zvezda kits. I used Tamiya spray can TS-44 Brilliant Blue for both and I think it's a close match. Pics of both are on this site. Just in case you aren't aware Zvezda has a MAX 7 kit, available on the Megahobby.com website last time I checked.

Thanks....Iíll have to check it out. Didnít realize Zvezda did a Max 7. Iím friends with the owner of Gemini Jets in Las Vegas. He gave me the paint code for the blue they use on their diecast models for Southwest. Hopefully the Tamiya paint is a good match...

      Hello,

as far as I know, Zvezda does not have a 737Max7 in its program. They do have a 737-700 instead.

Have fun! Life is short enough.

Here is a match for SW Current Color.

      https://www.myperfectcolor.com/paint/385390-pantone-pms-2126-c

Prefect colors is really good paint but expensive. I buy a few cans a year of Boeing Gray. I am also going to use them to do the new American when I get to those projects.

It's definitely a metallic color, kind of a silvery-gray. From a distance it looks gray though. Check this out: https://airlinercafe.com/page.php?id=447

How well does the Pantone color lay down via spray can? Just looked at their web site. Four cans of spray, $72. Has anybody tried airbrushing this paint? Is it Lacquer, enamel, or acrylic paint???? Never used this paint. May have to invest in the paint if there is no other options. Think the Tamiya X4 is too dark. Wonder if MRP has a close match. They have the Boeing grey available....

      Hi rob,

One can could do several kits. It is about the same capacity as a can of Krylon as a comparison. I have only used the Boeing Gray and I am a big fan of the paint though.

      Good Luck,

      Mark

      New Southwest colors are:

"Bold Blue": Pantone 2126C (PPG Aerospace CA8800/6677 Gloss Blue)

"Warm Red": Pantone 2035C (PPG Aerospace CA8800/4417 Gloss Red)

"Sunrise Yellow": Pantone 7549C (PPG Aerospace CA8800/3213 Gloss Yellow)

"Summit Silver": Pantone 10104C (PPG Aerospace CA8800/92113 Gloss Silver M/NM)

This info comes from Southwest's Brand Style Guide, which used to be downloadable from Southwest's web site but apparently has gone to the Land of 404.
