As long as I'm laid up and not long out of the hospital, its model building time. So far, I've produced two sci fi models, two WW2 fighters, with another two models to be finished this weekend, plus tons of CAD work. I guess there was something good about being injured!

Anyway, there's an A330 in the stash waiting to be built. Its the Aer Lingus release, if that matters. I'd like to build it as a Hawaiian Airlines A330, seeing as I maybe flying one to Maui in the next few months, if all goes well. What do I need to make a proper Hawaiian A330? I know that Flying Colors makes 767 decals for Hawaiian (I have both releases), but does anyone make decals for Hawaiian's A330s? New engines? Satellite bump? If no satellite bumps and the like exist, are there drawings anywhere as I can CAD up and print my own? I've heard that there is a replacement nose, but never seen one. Any help greatly appreciated making this beautiful bird.

      Hi Bob!

First of all, the Revell A330 is the longer -300 Version. As far as I know Hawaian only operates the shorter A330-200. So the Revell kit needs to be shortened. The tail needs to be converted. The size of the -200 tail is bigger.

Further you need Rolls Royce Trent engines. They are available as after market resin part from Braz.

Finally you can get the decal from 8a decals in Mexico.

All in all, can be a nice looking model, but requires a bit of skill.

      Greetings from Germany

      Currently on the line:
B747SP Air Namibia or Corsair (not yet decided)
      B777-200LR Air India
      B777-200 American One World
      ...and lots more...

      MANY THANKS!

I saw that Hannants has many of the goodies needed, like the engines. They also list some replacement tail surfaces for the -200. I take it those would also be good to use. Thanks, I hadn't realized that they flew the -200. For some reason, I thought they flew the larger -300, dummy me. Braz also lists a replacement A330 nose. Is that mission critical?

The nose on the Revell kits is bloated. It all depends if it matters to you or not. But you definitely need the vertical fin (there are actually 2 different ones on A330-200s depending on when it was built) and the Trent engines for your Hawaiian airplane. Cutting the fuselage down is pretty easy.

If the Braz A330 nose is Out of Stock, then it looks like their A300/310 nose will also work as its the same shape, maybe a few panel lines to be redone. Hmmm...

Hmmm. A puzzlement. After checking photos of Hawaiian A330s against the Braz replacement tails, I have a question: is there a third A330 tail? In some photos, it looks like the bulge running along the fin to fuselage join on Hawaiian A330s doesn't seem to match either of the Braz tail fins. The bulge looks something in between the bulge on the early Braz film and the later one.

      http://www.airliners.net/photo/Hawaiian-Air/Airbus-A330-243/2573234/L/&sid=e071a0156ae8bd8f57ed1a0ca21bff82

To my eyes, the actual bulge looks longer fore and aft than the original bulge (http://www.brazmodels.com/Airbus/A330-200/A330-200tail.jpg), yet not as tall as that on the second Braz fin (http://www.brazmodels.com/Airbus/A330-200/A340-200%20Tail%20post.JPG). The second fin is closest, but the bulge on the replacement part part looks too tall.

So, do the Hawaiian A330s have a different bulge there, or are my eyes just tricking me?

      Thanks,

      Bob

Since the only decal available is the 8aDecs one, it looks like you need the replacement fin on which the decal will fit. That is the post-mod fin where the bulge reaches back to the leading edge of the rudder.

I see your point. The decal sort of locks me in to the choice of tail. Thank you for the observation, I had missed that completely.

Yes, you'll need the later tail, as Hawaiian's A332s are all pretty new. There are (were) 3 different A330 tails:

      1. Stock A333/343 tail: original one
1b. Stock tail with wider bulge from 332/345/346 tail on original 333 tail for parts commonality, 2001ish introduction
      2. Original A332 tail: original with added height, pre- l/n 555
      3. Later A332 tail: longer chord, intermediate height, wider bulge at the bottom, shared with A345/346

Hello the tailfin decal was designed to fit Braz Tail, wich is the standard on the Hawaiian fleet, Airbus classified this mod as: 48979.

Anyway here are some fit tests pics.

I have to tell you Jon, I was a little skeptical about the quality of your decals when I visited your website. However, after observing the photos of these Hawaiian decals, I might have to go back and take another look - these appear to have come out quite nice.

I understand dont worry, as a matter of fact there`s a member in the Airliner Cafe community building the Hawaiian A330, just one photo at the moment, but i expect to see more from his work soon, btw hope this helps, its one of my FB albums with several fit tests photos of my decals.
