Ahhh, that's too bad. That airport is on my list of places to visit. Hopefully they will rebuild and recover.

Reports from the Dutch Navy now seem to indicate it's a mess, but accessible by helo at least...Important for urgent supplies, medevac, etc. They'll definitely have it back up and running at some point as it's the primary field for the whole island, tho I wonder if the beach road/'fence surfing' location will return, or be re-engineered in some way.

Not to get too heavy here, but with loved ones in Florida who are battening down the hatches (not to mention the death, destruction and poverty Irma's already left in its wake), my thoughts are elsewhere right now. We probably also have numerous Cafe members who are trying to prepare, get out, or deal with whatever's about to happen.

Airports can be rebuilt or replaced, and they don't feel pain or suffering when they're injured. People can't be replaced, and they can experience terror and suffering when disaster strikes. Keep them in your thoughts first and foremost.

In 1924 Wien was Alaska's first airline. In 1980 it still is.

Indeed. It's not either/or though. Nobody is forgetting about the other folks in Irma's path.
