Anyone flown Westjet across the pond? I'm reading a LOT of less than flattering reviews online. They're far and away the cheapest way for me to get to IPMS/UK at Telford this year, but I can't risk having flights cancelled because of a lack of cabin crew (seemingly common with Westjet). I have limited days off.

Anyone have any personal experience with them?

In one of my other hobbies I am a mileage runner... I've considered taking Westjet to Europe to position for some amazingly cheap fares ex-EU. For the same reasons you mention I have always avoided them in Lieu of other carriers... If you fly them I look forward to the trip report!

I hate to slam Westjet as it's usually a really well run operation. The Europe run is
still in its infancy and teething pains are obviously evident. If you don't want to
chance experiencing a delay/cancellation with them, you might also look at Air Transat
or AC Rouge for ultra low fares across the pond from Canadian points of departure. That
said, be prepared for knee-knocking and kidney massaging.

I've just returned from a family wedding in Canada and guests from the UK flew with Westjet, Air Transat and Air Canada Rouge. By all accounts there didn't seem to be much to choose among them, with the Westjet flight from Gatwick getting the marginally better review. I flew with Air Canada Rouge from Manchester and wasn't that impressed with either the standard of comfort or lack of IFE, entertainment being streamed to your own or rented iPads or tablets. The reason I chose ACR was that I got sick of Transat's poor service and the worst airline food I've ever tasted, even though they have a weekly service out of my local airport, Birmingham, which is also the nearest to Telford. AA and United ran a service from Newark to BHX until recently. AA have already cut the service with United to follow soon. The local TV news recently reported that Norwegian had expressed an interest in starting a service to the USA but nothing further has been heard. By far the best transatlantic flights I had were via Dublin with Aer Lingus both in terms of price and comfort. The only downside was the layovers in Dublin.

You might also look at WOW through Reykjavik to Bristol (BRS).

The problem lies in getting to places where those carriers serve. I could end up spending as much or more to get from Tucson to one of those places as I do on the transatlantic ticket. If I'm going to pay that much, I'd pay the regular carrier fare. Tucson is something of an air transport backwater. Phoenix is an hour and a half away, but much more choice out of there.

How far is LAS from you? Fares to LHR out of there are around $700 for the dates close to Telford. LAX to LHR on Aer Lingus is around $600, too.

LOL... only a 7+ hour drive

Regardless, I have a ticket to BZE for Thanksgiving day. Ten glorious days on the beach drinking rum drinks and eating wonderful Belizean food.

I didn't know if there was a cheap flight up to position or not. Just throwing it out there! Have fun in BZE!! That sounds like a blast! Hope to run into you at Telford or elsewhere in the not-too-distant future!!
