I hear body armor botiques outnumber hobby shops about 1000 to 1 in Chi-town. I am from the northeast and was amazed to find no local hobby shops here in Central Florida when I moved here 5 years ago. Hobby Lobby or Hobby Town are NOT what we are used to. Hope you have better luck in your search there than I did here.

Having done my Post-Doc in Chicago... I was never really able to find a hobby shop that offered much in the way of airliner "stuff." Most of what I needed when I lived there I either already had or could order off the internet...

It's a sad fact that brick & mortar hobby shops in 99.99% of America are a thing of the past, much less any that have airliner models.

I usually stay in Rosemont, just East of ORD and googling showed a few local hobby stores not too far away. Seemed mostly geared to drones and the like but I think one website said they had plastic models.

Shops can be sparse but I've found some interesting stuff. Occasionally the realllly small towns will have a shop with cool stuff that seems untouched for years.

Art - check out Colonial Photo and Hobby near downtown Orlando next time you're up here. Some airliner kits but every kinda paint and tool you'd want. The photo ppl can be odd but the guys at the hobby counter are very knowledgeable.

Chicagoland Toys and Hobbies just north of the I90 east of ORD had a pretty decent selection of plastic kits. Heavy emphasis on model railroad though.

      Best regards....Duncan

I have to amend my original comment about Hobby shops in central Florida. Hobbyland in Sanford, FL is a good sized store with stuff that runs the hobby gamut with a selection of plastic model kits, but light on Airliner stuff.
