Hi , hope this is the appropriate section. I'm heading from Scotland to California for my holidays this August. Specifically I'm staying in Santa Monica , San Diego , Palm Springs And Santa Barbara . Just wondered if there are any hobby stores in the area. Obviously I'm looking for ones that stock airliner kits . I will have car. Any recommendations appreciated

      Dear Sir,

As I am currently in Los Angeles working on a company project, please take a drive up to Burbank and visit Burbank House of Hobbies, lots of kits and supplies, very friendly place.
Let me know if you need the address, just gps yourself there, highly recommended.

      Regards, Cesar

      Pegasus Hobbies...

      http://www.pegasushobbies.net/catalog/

They had airliners before, but I haven't been there in a couple of years. Probably best to email just to be sure. I can say that back in the day it was a tremendous hobby shop, really big and thorough. They've since branched out into making their own sci-fi and other kits. I really liked this shop!

Brookhurst Hobbies is... Unique. I mean that in a good and a bad way. Their prices can be a bit high, but they also mismark a lot of kits so if you search around, you can often find the same kit at different prices. They once had the Revell A320 at three price points when I was last in there. When I asked why, the counter guy said that they must have gotten them from different distributors at different wholesale prices, hence the various retail prices. Take that as you'll take it, but if you go there look around to see if the same kits have the same price. You might score a bargain.

Thanks. Yes I'll be visiting San Diego Air museum. Also hope there is a harbour cruise to see any warships around. Then off to Coronado to see where they shot "some like it hot"

I'll try to get to Palm Springs museum to, but I'm travelling with a mate who is not really into planes . Tragic!

I'd also recommend the USS Midway in SD. I went there in 2015 and had quite a blast.

If youre looking for many airliners kits this is the place to go when at San Diego

      http://discounthobbywarehouse.com/

Have been there multiple times, lots of paints, tools, and airliner models too.

You should stop by the Science Museum in downtown LA, for 2 dollars you can see the Space Shuttle, and for your airline viewing there is a DC-8 on a stick, and there is a great view of the airplanes on there downward leg into LAX.

      What is wrong with him?

You'll enjoy the San Diego Air and Space Museum. So call ahead to be sure they're open. I offer it, the Midway, Palm Springs, and other air museums as extra credit destinations for my students and one or two have been surprised by sudden closures. Weird, but the website isn't always updated to note closures or hours changes. Say "Hi!" to Gumdrop for me! Also, you can have a great time around Balboa Park. Besides the MANY museums (check out what's there - I've seen the Faberge Eggs and Dead Sea Scrolls there), the San Diego Zoo is right down the road, so you could really have a nice day or two just in that one little area. The arrival flight path to SAN is just next to the Balboa Park, too, so bring a lunch, lay out on the grass and watch the wingie thingies zoom past.

      Have a great trip!

      Bob
