      Hi,

I'm interested in getting a Tupolev-114 kit in 1/144 scale. Could somebody tell me which alternatives are available at the moment. I've found out that Welsh Models makes a kit but are there other kits on the market.

      Hi Seutula,

good question! My guess is that you are not alone being interested in that amazing airliner.

Yes, there is a Welsh kit on the market, and I own it. My personal conclusion, however,
is that if you want a quality kit I can't recommend building it. It is not my intention to bash Welsh here at all. Its just my opinion.

To my knowledge there is no other kit on the market (though I may remember something about Braz?)

At the moment the best way to go is to get a Trumpeter TU-95, which is an excellent model, and scratch-build the fuselage and other
parts yourself or use parts of the Welsh kit for that conversion. However it will be a very time-consuming effort.

Other than that I am trying hard to convince Kurt for quite some time already that this airliner deserves his attention. However, he is not into Russian airliners. In the end it will be a marketing argument ... are there enough of us being interested in a decent 1/144 TU-114?

      Cheers,

      Christian

      Hi Christian,

Thank you for your reply. It's a pity there are no models of Tu-114 around. You mentioned the use of Trumpetet Tu-95 and the Welsh model kit together. Do you think that the outcome would be allright. Is the WM fuselage decent enough?

      Best regards

That just depends on the level of quality you want to achieve.
If you want a decent looking model the answer is no and you would need
to spent a tremendous amount of work on it or scratch-build it.

But in the meantime ... the TU-95 is also a pretty beast for itself and a beauty of a model!
I know ... its military, but in no way less impressive! )

      Cheers,
      Christian

Just found the Braz Resin parts for the Trumpeter conversion, so that is the right choice to go!

I built the Welsh and the Bra-Z, sorta looked like a TU-114. I ended up building the Rusair (Pas) 1/144 resin kit, looks good, the best of the bunch. Picture in database.

Note: Build the Welsh vacuform kit. Why you ask? Because everytime you build a vacuform kit, the plastic kit gets released the following day. Hopefully someday Zvezda will do one and Amodel will not.

      Hi Seutula,

Rus-Air has an excellent TU-114 model. You can buy it from Pas decals for around 35,- (ex. shipping). I have the model and it is indeed a high quality resin kit (though I have yet to build it). Their other model kits are also recommended (I have build both the An-148 and Yak-42 from Rus-air, which you can find pictures of in the database if you're interested).

      Regards,
      Martijn

Thanks to everybody and especially to Martijn for the advice.

I did what Martijn suggested. I ordered the Rus Air kit from Pas decals. I'll be looking forward to the model.

      Best regards

Have also an eye of RusAir's Tu-114 since a while.
Couldn't find any pics of the box content.
No pics what's in the box on RusAir's homepage.

But found some here in an old thread:
      http://airlinercafe.com/forums.php?m=posts&q=7201

      It's from 2012.
The kit is since 5 years available.
      How fast time goes by...
