Airliners International is fast approaching June 14-17 at DEN.

      http://airlinersinternational.org/

The model contest/show is set to go. I'll do the set up and Andrew Stiffler will hold down the fort as my son graduates college on the 17th. Entering the contest requires full show registration. As is often the case I'm doing a rush job to finish something in time for the show.

Here's an in-progress report. The show was going in full swing when I headed home last night. I managed to finish and enter the Entex Pocket Pak 747 as a plan B model. I built, painted, and decaled it in five days. Andrew Stiffler has a Continental Prop collection, Mark Shem a Frontier 737's at Stapleton diorama using two 732 kits and ATP Jetways which I'd never seen before. Andrew also had a 1/100 Braniff DC8, Revell 767, and a prop floatplane on the tables. Hopefully and likely more models will show up today and tomorrow morning.

Greg Joy was there with many decals for sale. Colpar Hobbies had a table as did Dana Kopher doing a "garage sale" of his good looking resin bits. I lucked into his last Electra fuselage and picked up 1/144 scale Stratocruiser, DC-6, and Constellation engines sets. I left for the airport with $15 in my wallet which was considerably less than I arrived with

As always it was good to catch up with people/modelers I hadn't seen since the last show.

I'm glad that I was able to be there for one day though bummed to miss today and judging tomorrow. Sometimes family stuff has to take priority. Results and photos to follow in a couple of days.

Here's a link to photos. Still waiting to ID one model/winners so labels and results will have to wait a little bit longer. I wasn't there for the results so a little more difficult to sort out than usual.

My friend Clint would have been mighty proud of that ATP 757!

A very nice collection of airliner models. Thanks Ken!

Thanks for adding the photos. The tiny UA 747 was neat to see.

I am surprised there were not more submissions for the contest.

      Congratulations to the winners.

I think there's a myriad of reasons they weren't/aren't more entries. I'd say the number of entries/contestants was good but not great this year.

Lets face it....model building takes quite a bit of time and effort. Travelling to a far away show and transporting a model(s) takes even more effort as well.

The more I build the seeming longer it takes me to finish a project. This year I almost didn't bring anything but "forced" myself to finish something to bring.

Some people just flat out refuse to enter contests/shows. Cost might be an issue as full show registration is required to enter.

On the flip side of things as is often the case at Airliners there were a handful of categories/awards without full entries. Second and third for Flights of Fancy, third for Collections/Diorama, second and third for Conversions, and three places for Vacuforms were all up for grabs. Bring and enter "anything" as long as it wasn't a past winner and you'd be guaranteed placing in those categories.

Bill Abbott is legendary for buying a kit at a show, "building" it in the hotel room, and having it place third at a past Airliners. I did the same another year with the tiny 1/800 Heller A380 model.

Yes the Airliners show/contest is a competition but it really is much more about celebrating model airliners.
