      Hello,

I received a few days ago a mint RusAir 1:144 Il-18 Coot from a very nice fellow modeller, blagodarya

At 1st sight, boy it looks great, as nice as the 2 other RusAir kits I own : exquisite casting, petite and constant recessed details, symmetrical and "feel good" shapes (I hate when a right part displays certain compound curves and its left counterpart is a bit more anemic). It may appear less detailed than other resin kits but at least it is a beautifully clean cast resin kit.

On the other side, I bought a few months ago Eastern Express's styrene kit which left me with a good 1st feeling, just not a big fan of its irregular recessed details and wobbly fit but the whole package is a huge improvement over their past rubbish (777, 737, A318).

      AZ's Il-18 ? Nope, not considering it.

1st impressions are not everything, however, and I was curious about accuracy. Placed side by side, the RusAir kit makes me drool a bit more.

So, according to you, which one has the edge ?

      Cheers !

Glad it arrived and glad you like it! Molya!

I think the shape is supposed to be identical between Rus Air and EE. I cannot say for certain but the 3d model that resulted in both kits seems to be the same. Looking in detail reveals remarkable replication. The same applied to the Rus Air Tu-134 which later saw many injeciton moulded iterations.

I just discovered the absolute joys of Google-translating an entire webpage.

The similarities are too numerous to be by accident. Since I feel a bit more comfortable with the resin kit's apparent great fit, I will pursue with this RusAir beauty.

Peter, thank you for your intuition
