I am going to purchase this kit, I flew on this beast to Nassau in 1983,
2 months after flight 855 aborted and returned to Miami. I flew from
Hartford Ct to Miami, then Miami to Nassau on Eastern's L-1011. No
major problems with our flight. I was going to do the Eastern scheme
until I saw an interesting United scheme. From what I see United only
flew L-1011s for a short time, the west coast to Asia? Any ways is there
any aftermarket decals for this livery? Thanks---John

They picked up a few -500s along with some 747 SPs when they bought Pan Ams Pacific routes.

Joy Decals carries a line, called Global Decals, that has the UA L-1011 scheme depicted.

Eastern Express already manufactured this kit with the United decals included.

      https://www.ebay.com/itm/1-144-Eastern-Express-L-1011-500-Tristar-United-Airliner-Model-Kit-EE144114-3/182848566055?epid=15007717714&hash=item2a929fb327:g:pAwAAOSwBkRZ7Nz1

This is actually an L-1011-500 with a shorter fuselage and longer wingspan than the standard L-1011 you are referring to. Do not purchase this United kit and put the Eastern decals on it because Eastern never operated the -500 version of the L-1011.

United acquired the L-1011s from Pan Am back in 1985 when United purchased Pan Am's Pacific route network. I want to say that these aircraft only operated from San Francisco in the United States and flew to several points in the Pacific rim.

Ok I am trying to follow here. So the United is a 385-3 or -500 and
the Eastern is a 385-1? I know they are different, now, but I am NOT
an L1011 expert. Does Eastern Express make the correct plane for the
Eastern Airlines decals? I know they sell a kit with Eastern livery, is it the
      right configuration? Thanks---John

Just go with this and you'll be ok.

Thanks, I got it, -200 had improved engines for high altitudes and hot climates
but otherwise was a -100. When and if I want a -500 i go with the Eastern Express United
kit with decals I like. I am doing the plane I flew in first, Eastern Airlines -200 from
      Miami to Nassau. Thanks---John

      Good Morning,

Eastern only ever flew the -1 version of the L-1011 (Note the box says -200 and the box photo shows N305EA which was a -1). You can use this "-200" kit just fine because the -1 was externally identical to the -100 and -200, the -100 and -200 having increased fuel capacity and upgraded engines for longer range.

      Take care,
      Kurt

      To make it simple:

All L-1011s had a long fuselage *except* the L-1011-500, which had a short fuselage, modified wing/body fairing, and extended wing tips.

Differences between all non-500 models related to fuel capacity and engine subtype, affecting range, etc. Externally they were essentially identical.
