Hello-I am thinking of building one of my favorite rides, the Boeing 757-200 in the Delta Song livery. I flew Song in 2005 from Boston to Tampa. What engines, I believe they are Pratt and Whitney? Thanks---John |

To my knowledge they all had P&W engines. Once Song Folded all the Aircraft went back to mainline Delta. Chris "Sorry Goose... But it's time to buzz the Tower." |

John, a few questions: What kit will you be using? What Song color? Are there decals available? |

Hello, I am going to take the challenge and do the Minicraft 757-200. I tried one several years ago with no luck, seems to my memory the stabs, wings and tail weren't square or perpendicular to each other. I am now retired and have lots of time and putty. I also am aware of the wing roots at different heights, the poor engine fit, landing gear misshap but have seen some modelers preform miracles and really turn out works of art! I have no interest in vac or resin, built injection molded kits now for 50 years and am happy with them. The decals are available at Joy Decals.com for $18. I am going with the green design not the pink. From my memory this was the best ride I ever had, loved the trip on the 757-200, was no comparison to the old 737, MD-83, L1011, A319, A320, ER-195. I think my second best ride was the L1011.---John |

I forget if it was on this site or the Airliner Modelling Digest, but Gerry Cole did a step-by-step correction on the Minicraft 757 several years ago and addressed the mismatched wing roots, the tail alignment issue, and some other things. It was a good tutorial and had pictures, but I cannot remember for the life of me where it was. I remember that Gerry's fixes for the big problems didn't involve anything special other than some careful cutting, regluing and reshaping. It can be done; it just takes some time and a lot of perseverance. Jodie Peeler In 1924 Wien was Alaska's first airline. In 1980 it still is. |

Thanks for that information. I have seen a few and the most interesting fix seems simple, cutting off the rear of the fuselage in back of the wing root and rotating it about 1/2 mm so the stabs become parallel to the main wings. There's also some grinding and reshaping of the wing root. I will search for the one you mentioned,it's always good to have more than one approach.---John |

Thanks for the complements, Jodie, it was AMD that had the "how to" photos. That first 757 is almost ready for paint, having been delayed due to health issues. The "slicing the fuselage" solution works very well, with a few comments along the way. First John, the cut and rotation at the rear of the fuselage takes care of the wing root problem, but the vertical stab will be out of alignment as a result. I just cut it off, added about .075 inch to the fin chord to correct the vertical stab chord, and re-attached. Don't forget that Minicraft tried to correct the problems by altering the main gear length on one side, and ditto for the wing thicknesses at the root. Your kit may not have these "fixes", but check for them anyway. Not hard to correct for them as long as you know about them. Although I did slice the fuselage in front of the wing, I didn't find it necessary. The cockpit and the fuselage mid-section aligned OK without any rotation. That's my kit, your's may vary. Biggest challenge was in fitting a reasonable intake duct to the kit's engines. That makes a big difference. Glad to answer any other questions, and yes, it would have been easier to purchase a much better 757-200 kit or use the BRAZ corrected parts. Gerry |
